Aarne Tanninen worked as ‘s Washington correspondent from 1981 to 1994. He is especially remembered for his saying, “This is Aarne Tanninen, Washington.”

‘s long-time correspondent Aarne Tanninen is dead. The matter is confirmed by Ylelle Tanninen’s daughter Maija Tanninen-Mattila.

Tanninen died on May 2 at the age of 90. The blessing ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 25th.

Tanninen was born in 1931 in Jämsä, Central Finland. After graduating, Tanninen studied political science at the University of Helsinki. He began his career as a journalist in his hometown of Jämsä in Koillis-Häme. In 1958, he joined New Finland and soon became the magazine’s Moscow correspondent.

Tanninen worked in Moscow from 1958 to 1963. The years 1965–1969 Tanninen was the correspondent of New Finland in London.

In 1970, Tanninen joined Broadcasting and in 1981 he became a Washington correspondent. He worked there until 1994, when he retired.

Tanninen is best remembered for his legendary saying: “Here is Aarne Tanninen, Washington.”
