Several member unions of the Olympic Committee would support Tapio Korjus as chairman. Korjus is still pledging his candidacy.
The toughest race of the end of the year in Finnish sports will perhaps take place at the cabinet level, when the Olympic Committee, which was brutally robbed during and after the Paris Olympics, renews its top leadership i.e. his government at the fall meeting on November 30.
The current chairman of the umbrella organization Jan Vapaavuori said in the closing information of the Paris Games that he will probably apply for another four-year season. Vapaavuori has not yet confirmed his candidacy, and no one else has publicly stepped up to challenge him.
However, in the inner circles of sports since the winter it has been considered very likely that the current member of the board of the Olympic Committee also wants the presidency Tapio Korjus63.

There would be support
The Olympic champion in the javelin throw 36 years ago became a member of the board of the Olympic Committee as nominated by Suomen Fitnessurheiltu ry. On Saturday, Korjus did not agree to specify which or which of the member organizations of the Olympic Committee have urged him to apply for the chairmanship.
According to Urheilu’s inside information, several sports federations and other organizations belonging to the Olympic Committee have already decided to support Korju if he runs for office.
Athletics umbrella organization Urheiluliitto has been mentioned as one of Korjus’ supporters. Chairman Riikka Pakarinen said on Saturday that the union will form its position only later.
– It will happen in September at the board meeting. I think we should form our own position on the matter. On a general level, of course, I think Korju is an excellent sports person.
Digital portal
The Olympic Committee will not appoint a nomination committee for the November elections, but instead a digital portal will be used, where nominations will be made from preliminary candidates. Official proposals are made only at the autumn meeting, where the chairman is also elected.
The candidates nominated for chairman by November 6 will be invited to the chairman’s panel televised at Areena.
