DONESTK AREA It is less than five kilometers from the field hospital to the front. The exact location in the Donetsk region is secret.

And there is a good reason for secrecy. The previous night a Russian rocket-fired grad rocket struck a nearby forest.

The field hospital provides first aid to wounded soldiers on the front lines. They will be transferred to the right hospitals farther from the front when their condition is stable enough.

– There are quite a few wounded, but we can’t tell the exact numbers. We are still coping well. Regarding military and civilian patients, he says Stepan.

Stepan is the commander of the field hospital. We do not share the full names of him or any of the interviewees for security reasons.

According to Stepan, the number of wounded and fallen Ukrainian soldiers has increased in recent days.

Russia’s so-called major attack has been going on for a couple of weeks in the Donbass in eastern Ukraine. Russian forces have failed to break through Ukraine’s defense. That is why Russia is using artillery.

Civilians are also being cared for

Russia is firing on Ukrainian soldiers, but also on civilians living near the front almost non-stop. The field hospital has also treated severely wounded locals.

The commander shows off his phone a picture of a young boy with a huge splinter injury in his leg. He said the leg had to be amputated for the boy to survive.

– The war has only recently hit civilians in this area with full force. We have cared for five civilians in critical condition.

The commander describes the field hospital as a first aid station. He presents a room with two simple operating tables and lights.

A room in the basement has been chosen for the purpose. The ambulances used by the army are armored. That’s how ‘s team was brought to the scene.

“They’re firing on hospitals”

Doctor at Kramatorsk Central Hospital It would be is also visiting a field hospital. He confirms that there are more and more wounded civilians in the Donbass.

– Every day there are dozens of injuries to civilians from Donetsk and Luhansk regions. We see that the attacking state is brutal. They fire at hospitals, nursing homes and residential homes. Common sense cannot explain it, Oleksi says.

It would be unreasonable for patients in the hospital to be afraid of free strikes.

The commander of the field hospital thanks the foreigner for the support.

– In the first days of the war, many in the West did not believe that Ukraine would stand, but already in the first week we felt the support of the West. Thanks to that, we are here today.

According to the commander, the hospital is receiving material help, but volunteer doctors have also come to the front.

Shock during ‘s visit

At the field hospital, I meet two Polish volunteer doctors. They don’t want to appear in the pictures, but say they make surgeries and give first aid.

In addition to the wounded, fallen Ukrainian soldiers are also being brought to the field hospital. I see four body bags being loaded into an ambulance.

When is in a field hospital, Russia targets the area. They don’t hit the hospital.

As a miracle trade, the field hospital has not yet received direct hits. They are unlikely to stop operations, as much of the first aid is provided underground.
