According to Urheilu, the contract between Niku and Ilves will be published on Monday.

JYP defender Sami Niku, 27, changes club. According to Urheilu’s information, Niku’s new club is Tampereen Ilves, and the contract is supposed to be announced during Monday.

The situation between Niku and JYP came to a dead end after the new head coach Mikko Heiskanen benched Niku in the HIFK match a little over a week ago. Later that evening, the head coach instructed the player that he does not have to come to the hall the next day.

Since then, Niku has not played for JYP and has informed the club of his wish to terminate the contract valid until spring 2024.

According to Urheilu’s information, the contract has been canceled and a new one made with Tampere Ilves.

Niku is a JYP graduate who returned to Finland a little over a year ago from North America. He represented Winnipeg and Montreal in 67 NHL games. With his 11+26=37 powers, Niku is the most efficient defender in the SM league season.

The news is being completed.
