Epic Star Wars series takes a completely different path to

The current Star Wars series on Disney+ like The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi are mostly linear. However, the upcoming Rogue One prequel Star Wars: Andor, about the story of the titular rebel (Diego Luna), will go exciting new ways. Series creator Tony Gilroy revealed this in a recent interview.

New Star Wars series relies on extraordinary narrative concept

Speaking to Empire, the Andor showrunner explains that the five-year span of the Star Wars series is not only broken down into two seasons, but also into… very special narrative blocks is divided:

The scope of the series is so huge. Directors work in blocks of three episodes, so we have [in Staffel 1] four blocks with three episodes each did. We looked and said, ‘Wow, it would be really interesting if we came back, and we’re using each block to represent a year. We’re getting closer to a year with every block.’ From a narrative perspective, it’s really exciting to work on something where you do a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and then skip a year.

The first season of Andor will focus on a single year across 12 episodes. The already confirmed second season also has 12 episodes, but here then the remaining four years of history be covered using the various narrative blocks. Sounds like an exciting concept that has never existed before in a Star Wars series.

Season 1 of Andor starts on August 31, 2022 on Disney+.
