(Finance) – Role ofagriculture in the economic and social development of the country at the center of the Enpaia 2023 Forum on the theme “Economy and Society. Scenarios and prospects” which was held today at Villa Aurelia, in Rome. The event also allowed us to observe the value that social security funds represent for its growth and relaunch, thanks to targeted investments towards sustainability and the green transition .
Scenarios and prospects were analyzed by representatives of institutions and industry insiders. Among the many interventions also that of Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security who in his speech wanted to underline how agriculture is “an important productive sector of our country with a very significant contribution to the GDP and with highly qualified employment”. A passage also forcefully reiterated in the interview given to Finance’s microphones.
The agri-food system has an important source of greenhouse gas emissions and at the same time is vulnerable to climate events. So what is the strategy to make the system more sustainable and resilient?
“The strategy is that of modernization, it is to make use of the most modern technologies both in the cultivation instrumentation and to create the conditions to have lower emissions or in any case to be able to treat those that are the residues of processing or in any case of livestock in particular , in the appropriate way to avoid emissions”.
On the sustainable nuclear front there will be a discussion in a few days, what is the line?
“The line is to move forward and remain an integral part on the research front, on the experimentation front with the aim of being ready for the evaluation of what fourth generation nuclear power will be”.
Can sustainability be a growth driver for Italy?
“It must be an important growth driver, it must be, indeed it is an opportunity to be better than others and therefore do something to be proud of and not to defend”.
Can agriculture be a protagonist in this sustainability process?
“Well it is already a protagonist because it is an important production sector of our country with a very significant contribution to the GDP and naturally with highly qualified employment but which are increasingly becoming more and more qualified, therefore it can truly be a characterizing vehicle, it already is , and even more, a vehicle that characterizes our country.”
