(Finance) – Var Energi, listed company of which Eni is the main shareholder, announced a new gas discovery in the Barents Sea, Norway. The discovery is preliminarily valued at 9-21 billion cubic meters of recoverable gas (57-132 million barrels of oil equivalent) and has the potential to contribute to future gas supply from the Barents Sea.
Well 7122/9-1 T2 (Lupa) is the first exploration well drilled under license PL229E. It is located 85 km northwest of Hammerfest and about 27 km northeast of the Goliat field, operated by Vår Energi. It was drilled to a water depth of 403m with the Transocean Enablers drilling platform.
The well encountered a 55-metre column of gas in the sandstones of the Triassic Havert Formation. An extensive data acquisition and sampling program was performed.
Var Energi holds a 50% stake in the PL229E license, with partner AkerBP (50%).
Var Energi, owned by Eni with a stake of approximately 63%, is one of the leading independent upstream oil and gas companies on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). It has a strong and diversified asset portfolio with ongoing development projects and a strong exploration track record.
Var Energi holds interests in 36 fields which have given a production of 246,000 net boe per day in 2021
