Eni enters the United Nations Gold Standard for its commitment to reducing methane emissions

Eni obtains second license for carbon dioxide storage in the

(Finance) – Eni announced that he had received the Gold Standard within the program Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) as reported today in the report‘International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) published by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The basis of the recognition by the United Nations is the assessment positive of Eni for having significantly improved its implementation plan for reporting methane emissions, in line with the recommendations of the OGMP 2.0 program.

This recognition by the United Nations confirms the effectiveness of strategy Of decarbonisation of Eni, with particular reference to the reduction of methane emissions, a topic that has taken on a central role in debate climate international.
In fact, Eni confirms the stability of Upstream methane emission intensity below 0.2% in line with the “well below 0.2%” objective of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) for 2025, which Eni has already achieved, continuing to act in particular on reducing emissions fugitives and through projects for the abatement of methane by venting and flaring. In 2022 this figure stood at 0.08%.

The emissions Eni’s methane supply was reduced by more than 50% in 2022 compared to 2018, in particular thanks to the implementation of LDAR (Leak Detection And Repair) campaigns in almost all of Eni’s operated assets.

In 2022 Eni helped launch the initiative with OGCI Aiming for zero methane emissions, which today has more than 90 member companies. In order to guarantee ever greater transparency in the reporting of methane emissions, Eni is implementing a measurement plan on the sites where it operates using the best technologies available on the market, in line with the international guidelines shared in the OGMP 2.0 program. This campaign will also allow the Company to establish a new emissions reduction target in 2024.

Eni’s commitment to reducing methane emissions is one of the levers of Eni’s plan decarbonisation of operations, which also includes the progressive reduction of emissions from routine flaring and investments in efficiency energywith the objective of zeroing Scope 1+2 net emissions from the Upstream business by 2030 and from all Eni businesses by 2035.
