Eni-Ansaldo Energia, agreement for electricity storage projects

Eni Ansaldo Energia agreement for electricity storage projects

(Finance) – Enithe Italian energy giant, and Ansaldo Energia, one of the largest producers of power plants in the world, have signed an agreement for the development of projects based on solutions innovative technologies for the accumulation of electrical energy alternatives to electrochemical batteries. The agreement between the two long-standing partners provides that these technologies, already under study and already subjected to Eni’s technology validation process, are implemented in synergy in some industrial sites of Eni and its subsidiaries in Italy, exploiting the potential of existing systems for the production and consumption of electricity.

The accumulations of electrical energy are essential to overcome the structural limit of programmability and intermittence of renewable sources and therefore favor their development. The two companies highlight that the agreement signed today may be the subject of subsequent binding agreements that the parties will define in compliance with the applicable legislation (including that on transactions between related parties).

“Renewable energies, wind and photovoltaic, are essential solutions for the success of the energy transition and Eni is dedicating great effort and resources to grow quickly in these areas and to help overcome the structural and economic limits due to their discontinuity in production – declares Giuseppe Ricci, Eni’s General Manager of Energy Evolution – This agreement is part of our approach to transition based on technological leadership, the know-how of our people and the ability to transform and evolve our industrial sites, which are fundamental elements for successfully facing the important challenge of decarbonisation “.

“The initiative with Ansaldo Energia fits perfectly into the growth of Enipower’s role as a provider of network services, which are increasingly necessary – with the growth of renewables and the electrification of final consumption – to guarantee the stability of the national network” , he comments Francesco Giunti, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Enipower.

“Having been chosen by Eni, with whom we have been collaborating for many years, for a concrete commitment in the challenge of the energy transition is for us a strong reason for pride and satisfaction”, he says. Giuseppe Marino, Chief Executive Officer of Ansaldo Energia. “The technological solution underlying the agreement, an alternative to lithium-ion batteries, is rooted in a strong European supply chain, guarantees a safe long-lasting energy storage service, overcomes the obstacles related to disposal and does not present problems related to critical issues. supply “, he adds Daniela Gentile, Chief Executive Officer of Ansaldo Green Tech.
