Forward Mason Greenwood is changing his representation rights from England to the Jamaican national team
A football player Mason Greenwood is switching to the Jamaican national team, reports ESPN. Greenwood, 22, who has represented England all his life, is entitled to represent the Caribbean country due to his parents’ roots.
According to ESPN, the English Football Association has approved the transfer, and asked FIFA to approve Greenwood’s transfer. Greenwood has played one game for England, coming on in a Nations League match against Iceland in September 2020.
In 2022, Greenwood, who was considered a great prospect for England, was accused of sexual violence and abuse, after which his parent club Manchester United banned the player from their activities.
The criminal charges were dismissed in February 2023, but the 22-year-old forward did not train with his parent club after that.
In July, Greenwood left Manchester United and moved to Marseille for a transfer fee of around 25,000 euros. Greenwood had a contract with United until June 2025.
Greenwood was never suspended by the FA for criminal charges, but has not played for England since his debut against Iceland.
