England has not impressed at all during the football European Championship.
Now two of the country’s biggest football profiles step out and bring out the big saw.
– They have been rotten for four games, says a very critical Alan Shearer.
It hasn’t been a fun European Championship for England so far. Despite being in the quarter-finals, the criticism has been huge against the English national team and above all the national team captain Gareth Southgate.
England is sawn
In the round of 16 against Slovakia, the English were also very badly out and just a minute or so away from being eliminated. But then stepped Jude Bellingham came forward and saved England with an incredible bicycle kick in the 95th minute to take the game to extra time.

Then decided Harry Kane and sent England through to the quarter-finals. But the effort does not at all impress the experts in the home country and two of the country’s biggest football profiles in Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker now steps out and drives the national team crazy.
– They were far too far apart. It must be the instructions for the players to play differently to how it is done otherwise, says Lineker in the podcast “The rest is Football”.
– It is puzzling. I don’t want to be too negative but if the match had been a minute shorter it would have been one of the most miserable and humiliating efforts in the country’s history.
Criticism of icons
While Shearer takes it a step further and states that England have not played a single good game in this European Championship so far.
– England had nothing at all and I couldn’t see where the goal was going to come from. Positively? They are further and that’s all that counts in the playoffs, he says in the podcast.
– Does it matter how they play? It is results-based. But there is so much more to be gleaned from this England. Am I wrong if I say they’ve been rotten for four games?

England will be happy that they got the easy way in the European Championship play-offs and avoid the very biggest giants in the championship. Next, Switzerland awaits in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
– We can hurt Switzerland. All of us are waiting for us to improve, says Shearer.
– England is a clear underdog and they must turn this around now, says Lineker.
