Speaking in Finland, where he was for exercises, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace stated that alliances between European countries make Europe safer.
“I WILL NOT DIRECT”
Noting that whether or not to become a NATO member will be entirely Finland’s own decision, Wallace emphasized that he will not “lobby or direct” on this issue.
“IT CANNOT BE CONSIDERED THAT ENGLAND CANNOT SUPPORT FINLAND OR SWEDEN”
When asked whether Britain would help if Finland did not join NATO, Wallace said: “England will always be here in the North, a part of you, helping you, supporting you. “It is inconceivable that he would not support Finland or Sweden in the event of an attack without a formal agreement. We are European countries with deep and long histories that share the same values.” said.
After Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Finland and Sweden started to evaluate NATO membership. (AA)
