Energy EU Council commitment to phasing out dependence on Russia

(Finance) – The EU Council extraordinary on energy, convened to discuss the measures to be taken at the European level following the decisions of last week Gazprom to cut gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria. The ministers also took stock of possible ones actions additional in terms of security of supply, gas transit and gas stock management, particularly in view of the weeks and months ahead. In particular, they welcomed the rapid progress of the negotiations on the regulation “gas storage“and with the hope of ending them shortly. European ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to work towards the gradual elimination of the EU’s dependence on fuels fossils Russians.

In this context, they said they look forward to the REPowerEU planwhich will be presented by the Commission in May.
