On Saturday afternoon, this year’s Christmas lighting was inaugurated in central Malmö and it will be lit until after the New Year.
– We try to create an environment where people want to stay outside even during the dark and in the winter months, says Åsa Gullstrand, lighting designer in Malmö Municipality.
A novelty is six lighted benches and a mailbox for Santa. The new lamps in the trees are more energy-efficient but significantly more expensive than the previous ones.
– We have invested in new light sources for the trees where we have looked at trying to have lighting that still has a good quality. Malmö residents will not see any difference, but we save a lot of energy this way, says Åsa Gullstrand
