Enel Grids hits a record 56 GW of new renewable

(Tiper Stock Exchange) – Enel Gridsthe global power distribution business line of the Enel groupduring 2022, connected the record figure of almost 5.6 GW of new renewable capacityrelating to approx 411 thousand producers and prosumers around the world, of which about 317,000 in Europe and the rest in Latin America.

At the end of 2022, the cumulative small and medium-scale renewable capacity connected to Enel Grids networks worldwide has reached 65.7 GWcoming from a total of approx 1.4 million producers and prosumers. These results were achieved thanks to the growing capacity to accommodate distributed renewable generation (hosting capacity) and the high level of digitization of the distribution networks managed by Enel.

“Electricity grids are fundamental in the current energy scenario, characterized by growing and increasingly decentralized renewable generation and the increasingly active role of consumers, as evidenced by the record number of producers and prosumers connected to the Enel Group’s networks in 2022”, he said. declared Antonio CammisecraDirector of Enel Grid, adding “this unprecedented ‘bottom up’ energy transition is made possible by the large number of citizens who use natural resources to self-produce renewable energy”.

“We expect ever greater volumes for 2023 and beyond – the manager anticipated – as demonstrated by the constant growth of requests received in the first weeks of the year”.

Of the new 5.6 GW added globally in 2022, 2.4 GW have been connected in Italyof which approx 2 GW deriving from photovoltaic solar plantscorresponding to the installation of over 6 million solar panels standard. The added capacity in the areas served by Enel in Italy was concentrated for 57% in the northern regions and 20% in the central regions. The southern regions contributed 14% and the remaining capacity was installed in the islands. The number of new connections carried out in the period is equal to approx 204 thousandabout 2.5 times more than in 2021.

Technical companies they managed 87% of requests of connection on behalf of end customers, thus enhancing the value chains of local entrepreneurship. With record additions in 2022, the total number of prosumer and producer connected to the Enel network in Italy now amounts to approx 1.2 millionfor a total capacity of over 34 GW.

In SpainEnel Grids has connected 2.2GW of capacity thanks to 97 thousand new connections in 2022 (over 3 times more than in 2021), up to a total of about 134 thousand, corresponding to a total capacity of 24.4 GW. Among the regions served by Enel Grids, Extremadura, Andalusia and Catalonia installed a total of 80% of the total power, while the remainder was divided between Aragon and the Balearic and Canary Islands.

The remaining additions were mainly made in Brazilwhere 800 MW were connected to the networks, almost 2 times more than in 2021.
