(Finance) – Un innovative cultural center dedicated to the energy transition within the central Is in the “Alessandro Volta” of Montalto di Castro: the TECCCCenter for Culture and Knowledge of Energy Transition, was presented today by the Director of Enel Italy Nicola Lanzetta and by the mayor Sergio Caci In presence of Francesco BattistoniUndersecretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies, Massimo OsannaDirector General of Museums, Ministry of Culture e Patricia VielArchitect and Co-founder, Studio ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel.
The project aims at the regeneration of the site area – originally intended for a nuclear power plant that never came into operation – through the creation of a real innovation district, in which the narration of the past is intertwined with activities oriented towards the future. The creation of a museum space that can be visited as well as functional spaces dedicated to training activities, represents an extraordinary opportunity that it allows to merge together technical, economic, social and environmental aspects. Inside the TECCC, the Energy Transition Museum will come to life, covering a total area of over 5,000 square meters. To this, about 15,000 square meters of exhibition space are added within two existing structures (dedicated to art installations on the theme of energy, information exhibition rooms on the theme of the energy transition) and an event room connected to a panoramic terrace.
“The project also includes an elevated visit path – explains thearchitect Patricia Vielco-founder of ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel – which surrounds the area and will immerse the visitor in a landscape that reflects the complexity of the site, with the aim of enhancing and making accessible artefacts of extraordinary historical and architectural value “.
“Being able to tell the past and future of energy is particularly important in a historical moment like this, in which the energy transition is radically changing the entire sector, from production to transport to consumption, pushing towards a more sustainable model”, he comments. Nicola Lanzetta, Director of Enel Italy. “Doing it inside the Montalto di Castro power plant also has a symbolic value and further enriches the enhancement program of the site, which will be the largest of our integrated and multifunctional energy centers in Italy. Thanks to an innovative and open space we will be able to involve even the youngest “.
“The activity of a municipal administration is more effective if cultural development is at the center of its political action”, comments the mayor Sergio Caci. “The project that Enel is presenting today and that we, but I would like to say also the future administrations, we support, goes exactly in this direction. a museum and knowledge center never built before “.
“The integrated energy project that was born in Montalto di Castro is an important opportunity for development and growth not only for Lazio, but for all of Italy – declares the Undersecretary of Mipaaf Francesco Battistoni. – Environment and territory will grow in synergy with each other, combining energy transition and sustainability, creating the programmatic bases for progress not only in terms of energy, but also employment and system “.
“The project for the construction of an integrated energy and cultural center in the area of the Montalto di Castro nuclear power plant is excellent news – comments Massimo Osanna, Director General of Museums, Ministry of Culture. – Dignity is finally restored to a piece of territory of great landscape and historical value: we are in the territory of influence of one of the major cities of Etruria, the city of Vulci, located, with its endless necropolis, among the municipalities of Canino and, in fact, Montalto di Castro. This is excellent news also because it confirms once again that entrepreneurship and creating cultural value are not antithetical concepts, far from it, they can coexist in the common vocation of bringing benefits to the reference communities. We therefore welcome the new Energy Transition Museum within the variegated and lively world of Italian cultural sites, with the hope of being able to welcome it soon into our National Museum System “.
There center of Montalto di Castro is at the center of an important development starting from the needs of the electricity system and the opportunities created by the energy transition, a plan that will see the construction of a new energy pole integrated between initiatives in the energy sector, developed by Enel, and new business solutions developed by third parties. L’initiative is part of the broader commitment of the Enel Group for a new one development of the sites of its plants, according to a strategy that places as a priority the enhancement of existing structures and integration with new renewable production plants and storage systems, combined with new business projects in different areas.
The demolition of the already disused oil units is underway at the site. Enel has started theauthorization process necessary to be able to build a new photovoltaic system on the site on an area of about 20 hectares, for a power of about 10 MW. Other areas under development (6 hectares) will be destined to host energy storage systems for about 245 MW, thus providing a further contribution to the use of renewable energy and the stability of the electricity system: also in this case they are already underway the authorization process. In line with the indications of the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) and to favor Italy’s exit from coal, renewed and more efficient turbogas plants will remain active within the Alessandro Volta. The new development of the site is also open to external projects: an area no longer used to produce energy has been rented to a company in the Viterbo area which will start its own production of solar trackers, generating employment and value at the local level. Further solutions are being studied, currently subject to dialogue with the institutions, which will make it possible to enhance existing assets and structures, guaranteeing positive effects for the territory; among these, an innovative hydroponic greenhouse project, for which technical-economic feasibility analyzes are underway and which will benefit from the areas and part of the existing structures.
