ENEA in partnership with Gauss Fusion for nuclear energy

(Finance) – AENEAS – National Agency for new technologies, energy and sustainable economic development announces a partnership with the European company Gauss Fusionfounded in 2022 by private industrial companies from Germany, France, Italy and Spain, with the aim of advancing the industrialization of nuclear fusion energy, making it scalable and making it a reality in Europe.

The collaboration is in fact aimed at development of technologies related to nuclear fusion. Together, ENEA and Gauss Fusion intend develop solutions for the following areas identified as fundamental for the development of fusion energy: blanket, fuel cycle, superconductivity and neutronics.

With this partnership Gauss Fusionwhich has as its fundamental mission the implementation of technologies to bring fusion energy “from the laboratory to grid use” in Europe, strengthens collaboration with research and the Italian fusion energy industry. For its part, ENEA aims to promote Italy’s competitiveness in the energy, new technologies and environmental sectors, in particular by supporting research and technological development.

Gauss, which already has investors and technological partners among its investors Hofimathe family holding company Malacalzaalso a shareholder of ASG Superconductorsthanks to this agreement strengthens its own link with the Italian research and industry scenario; ENEA is the first Italian research organization to collaborate with Gauss Fusion, which aims to build the first fusion power plant by the early 2040s to promote Europe’s energy independence.

“As a young company operating in the fusion sector, Gauss Fusion is at the forefront in Europe with its unique industrial approach” he says Alessandro Dodarodirector of the ENEA Nuclear Department, adding that the company is “a strategic partner in the support and implementation of projects for the development of fusion technologies”.

“The collaboration with ENEA is another important step to bring fusion energy from the laboratory to grid use in Europe,” he explains Milena RovedaCEO of Gauss Fusion, underlining “as an Italian, I am particularly pleased with this collaboration with a prestigious partner like ENEA to further develop the technologies and materials necessary for fusion; in the future we plan to involve other partners in Italy”.

ENEA and Gauss Fusion bring together significant expertise in the field of research and industry and the results of this partnership will make it possible to significantly accelerate some technological developments necessary for the construction of a fusion power plant.
