(Finance) – Precision lighting, targeted ventilation, water saving: researchers AENEAS are experimenting with a new one in the laboratories of the Biotechnology and Agroindustry Division simple, sustainable, low-cost system for growing vegetables at home without using pesticides.

The strong point of the device, a simple mobile shelf of suitable size to house the plants to be grown, is the LED lighting system developed by BECARa company of the Beghelli group, together with ENEA, as part of the PON ISAAC project funded by the Ministry of Economic Development. The system supplies plants with light in the spectrum useful for photosynthesis and with an intensity suitable for making them grow. This special lighting system combined with a targeted ventilation and touse of conventional substrates (soil, soil, compost), allows you to perform a complete cycle of vegetable production in domestic environments.

THE first experiments were conducted on Saffron seedlings and are now being conducted tests on Lettuce and Tomato.

“The system is a real downgrade of the Microcosm, the first hi-tech field simulator for scientific research ever made in Italy for the cultivation of plants indoors and in extreme environments, patented by ENEA and FOS and marketed by the start-up Green Plan ”, he explains Luigi d’AquinoENEA researcher of the Bioproducts and Bioprocesses Laboratory.
