Williams has said that his career will end after this season. However, he has been vague about the timing of his last match.

The US media believe that the match in question was the tennis star’s last, but Williams herself did not give a clear answer in the on-court interview or in the post-match press conference as to whether the match in question was definitely her last.

Williams is one of the greatest tennis players of all time, considered by many to be the greatest female tennis player of all time, to some considered to be the greatest player of all time regardless of gender. However, his historical significance is far greater than just the tournaments won.

Williams has changed tennis in many ways along with her sister Venus. In the late 1990s, they brought a new, even harder hitting power to the courts, which other players had to respond to. It has taken women’s tennis forward in big steps.

The Williams sisters were originally known specifically for their powerful shots, but Serena, especially later in her career, has also become known for her defensive game and fierce will to fight. However, the most important weapons were always strong groundstrokes and perhaps the best serve in the history of women’s tennis.

Tennis legend, winner of 18 Grand Slam tournaments Chris Evert has stated that Williams has also changed the way female players behave on the court.

– Nowadays it’s ok to be furious and passionate and loud on the field, stated Evert, who during his playing years in the 1970s and 80s was calm himself.

The Williams siblings have been important role models and role models as dark-skinned athletes from poor backgrounds who have achieved great success. It’s a big part of Serena’s legacy.

Williams is interested in many things outside of tennis. She has her own clothing design company and has a children’s book coming out. Williams has invested in more than 60 startups through his Serena Ventures company.

Of course, Williams’ career has also had some negative publicity. The US Open final 2018 is perhaps best remembered from recent years Naomi Osaka against. Williams was cautioned because, according to the referee, her coach gave instructions. Williams did not digest the sentence, broke his racket, raged at the referee and insulted him.

23 Grand Slam tournament wins and $94 million in prize money

And then those numbers.

Serena Williams has won the most singles Grand Slams in the Open Era of tennis, 23. Throughout tennis history Margaret Court is one ahead. Williams’ career has been long, although various injuries and illnesses, as well as the birth of a child, have moved him to the side every now and then.

Venus, who is more than a year older, rose to the top first, but the siblings’ father, Richard, said that the little sister will be even better. And so it happened. Venus – who has yet to announce her retirement – won “only” seven Grand Slams. Serena even managed to win her first before her big sister, at the US Open in 1999, when she was 17 years old.

In 2002-2003, Williams made the first so-called Serena Slam, i.e. won all four Grand Slam tournaments in a row, but not in the same year. He did another similar one in 2014–2015. In 2015, the real Grand Slam of the calendar year was close, but it fell short in a surprise loss to the Italian Roberta Vinci against in the semifinals of the US Open.

Williams won Olympic gold in London 2012. He won the final tournament of the best eight players of the season five times. Williams collected a total of 73 WTA tournament victories.

In addition to this comes the achievements in doubles, which the Williams sisters played together especially early in their careers and again in the middle stages. They have played in 14 doubles Grand Slam finals and won them all. They also have three Olympic gold medals in doubles. Venus and Serena Williams also played doubles in this US Open.

Serena Williams earned more than $94 million in prize money. Sponsorship income is a separate issue, then we are talking about even bigger numbers. She is the world’s highest-paid female athlete.

Serena is the idol of many current top players. Many of them have been born since Serena won her first slam. For example, the world number one born in 2001 Iga Swiatek said a few weeks ago that when he’s around Serena, he forgets that he’s number one in the world and hasn’t dared to greet her yet. However, it happened right under the US Open.
