Chris Evans (Captain America) gushed to Anthony Mackie (Falcon) about a great scene in Avengers: Endgame. However, his colleague knew nothing about the big plot twist of his character in the film.
Avengers: Endgame is the grand finale about the well-known group of heroes who throw themselves into battle against alien supervillain Thanos.
Towards the end of the film you see an aged Captain America. It’s time someone else carried the hero’s iconic shield. Steve Rogers selects Sam Wilson, also known as Falcon, as his successor.
As Chris Evans recounted on The Tonight Show on November 5, 2019, he accidentally spoiled the scene for Falcon actor Anthony Mackie before filming.
Here’s a trailer for Avengers 4: Endgame:
“You give me the shield?”
Marvel is also careful with actors not to give out too much information about what’s happening in the films, as Evans points out in the interview.
However, the actor had already received the script for an important scene in Avengers: Endgame in advance. The moment Captain America hands his shield to Falcon. So Evans already knew that Mackie should carry on the hero’s legacy.

The two actors got along very well not only in front of the camera, but also behind it. Both were filming in Atlanta and Evans invited some people over to watch football together.
Mackie was the first guest to arrive. Evans, believing his colleague already knew about the scene, said enthusiastically:
‘Hey man, isn’t this scene amazing?’ And he said, ‘What scene?’ And I said, “The…The scene where I give you the shield.”
And he said, “You give me the shield?”

That’s when Evans realized Mackie has no idea what’s going to happen towards the end of Endgame. The actor quickly retrieved the script and handed it to his colleague.
Our colleagues from Moviepilot have explained here why fans should no longer hold on to Chris Evans as Captain America.
“I saw him read the scene where he gets the shield for the first time and he was so happy that you’re like, ‘Man, maybe I took that moment away from someone like Kevin Feige… But it was so nice to witness that moment,'” Evans enthused on the show.
What he particularly liked about it was that the transfer of the title “Captain America” was in a way just between him and Mackie, similar to the two characters in the film.
Two other actors, on the other hand, held a strange competition in their spare time:
