The French XV full-back “mistakenly” posted a racist video on social media.
Full-back for the French XV and RC Toulon, Melvyn Jaminet completely went off the rails on social media by “mistakenly” posting a video insulting Arabs. “My daronne (my mother) who asks me if I partied. I swear to you, the first Arab I meet on the road, I’ll hit him with my helmet,” the rugby player said.
Very quickly, the FFF took action, condemning and excluding the player from the group present in Argentina. “The French Rugby Federation (FFR) condemns in the strongest terms the comments made by Melvyn Jaminet, in a video recently broadcast on social networks. Such comments are totally unacceptable and contrary to the fundamental values of our sport, we can read in the press release published by the FFR, Sunday July 7. As a result, Melvyn Jaminet has been sidelined with immediate effect and is leaving the France group currently present in Argentina. An internal investigation is underway to shed light on the making of these extremely serious comments and take appropriate measures.”

A few minutes later and faced with the controversy, the 25-year-old player spoke out again on Instagram. “I am deeply sorry and ashamed of my words. I want to apologize to everyone,” wrote the French international. “I understand that this may have hurt and offended many people, and I want to make it clear that these comments in no way reflect my values or those of the French rugby team. Racism, in all its forms, is unacceptable and goes against everything I believe in. I understand the FFR’s sanction and am at their disposal to shed light on this matter.”
It is now difficult to imagine a continuation of the French player’s international career, or even a club career, even if this scandal is only just beginning.
