It is the story of three sisters with linked destinies but only one of them succeeded. Madila is married to a rich man. Her children go to French school. Everything is fine, until the suicide attempt of his older sister. Single, Oya (the one who knows nothing and manages nothing) has just experienced a breakup and can’t stand the “one says”, “the gaze of others close to your neck. Behind your back, it whispers, it murmurs. It is at her bedside that everything bursts forth, from the truth of marriage, to happiness and the social pressure that weighs on African women, whether they are rich or poor, in town or in the village.

Nathalie Hounvo Yekpe

Nathalie Hounvo Yekpe is an actress, director and author, trained at the International Theater School of Benin, created by Alougbine Dine. She also holds a master’s degree in land use planning (University of Abomey-Calavi). She mainly played contemporary authors like José Pliya, Guillaume Poix, Bérangère Janelle, but also in The Cid by Corneille or The Negroes by Jean Genet. She regularly organizes and leads training workshops in acting and improvisation techniques with the young artists of the Baani association, of which she is the president. Wedding Race is his first play, after co-writing Too many devils under their skirts with Michael Beretti.

On the proposal of the Francophonies-From writing to the stage, and the Maison des authors of Limoges where the text was written as part of the residency program “Discoveries”. With the support of the French Institute of Benin.
