An escaped emu engages the residents of Ödeshög in Östergötland. Despite concerted efforts to capture the animal, the large bird has now been on the run for over two weeks. – You have to wait until it is hungry, says Annica Hesser, who is a journalist at the local newspaper. An Emu is on the loose in Ödeshög. The large avian animal has roamed freely in the area and its surrounding villages for over two weeks now, something that has aroused great interest among the residents. – You could say it involves the whole village, says journalist Annica Hesser at Corren in Ödeshög. In a local Facebook group, the mystery surrounding the escaped emu has now landed at the top of the agenda. What people have wondered about is partly who owns the bird – and why no one has yet brought it home. – You constantly update where it was last seen. In the beginning, people wondered who owned this bird and we have come to the conclusion – there is an owner who is working on his front to get it in, says Annica Hesser. But despite the community’s joint efforts, the bird has not yet been caught. – Many are worried that it will be hit, so they have joined forces to ask if they can help and capture this bird. “Wait until it gets hungry” But this is easier said than done. An emu is a powerful animal, quite similar to an ostrich, with strong, fast legs. They can be kicked if they are crowded and hunting down such an animal is therefore no job for the inexperienced. But after asking a veterinarian, Annica Hesser has received tips on the best way to capture the escaped bird. – The tip to capture this in the best way is to wait until it gets hungry and lure it into a trap so you can maybe get it into some horse transport or something. But then people should not be nice and feed this bird in the meantime because she seems to be enjoying the outdoors! Watch the clip in the player above.
