Employee at the Vemyra youth home suspected of serious drug smuggling

The man, who has been employed at the Sis home Vemyra in Sollefteå for a few years now, is suspected of having smuggled in and distributed large quantities of narcotic-classified tablets from Poland and the Czech Republic to Sweden.

Customs became suspicious at the end of last year and then began an investigation. In several suspicious deliveries, customs exchanged tablets for flour and paper. Then they tracked down the man who picked up the packages and delivered them on. In February this year, three people were arrested who were charged with serious drug offences.

Head of institution: “Do background checks”

At Vemyra, a background check is always done on people before they hire new staff, says head of department Johanna Karlsson.

– It is to ensure that you are suitable as an employee to work with our young people, Johanna Karlsson.

Taken out of service

The man denies the crime, but admits that he distributed packages, believing that they were aphrodisiacs.

– The employee has been taken out of service and going forward there will be an employment law process where our personnel responsibility board handles the case, says Johanna Karlsson.

In the clip, you hear the head of the department about the charges against the employee and the risk of drugs entering Vemyra.
