Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov, in an interview with Belarusian state television, touched upon the relations between Turkey and Russia within the framework of the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul.
“TURKEY IS A GREAT REGIONAL POWER AND COUNTRY”
Pointing out that Turkish President Erdogan is a great and powerful political leader, Peskov said, “Turkey is a great regional power and country. Our relations with Turkey are excellent.” used the phrase.
Noting that there are different views in the relations between Russia and Turkey and that the two countries do not fully understand each other at some points, Peskov said that despite all this, the partnership relationship on the basis of mutual interests predominates, and that is why the two countries develop huge economic projects.
“Turkey has always been a big enough regional power, and Turkey has been a NATO member for many years. However, especially during Erdogan’s presidency, Turkey became the most sovereign state among NATO member sovereign states. And this is a country that has the luxury of defending its interests.” he said.
“WE HAVE GOOD PERSPECTIVE WITH TURKEY”
Today, Turkey said to NATO and the USA, “We will not participate in the sanctions against Russia and we will not burn bridges with Russia. Because this is what we need.” Peskov pointed out that the continuation of the dialogue between Turkey and Russia is of great importance for the economic relations between the two countries.
“This is very valuable,” Peskov said. We place a lot of value on it.” made its assessment.
Pointing out that the cooperation between Turkey and Russia in the tourism and energy sector is developed, Peskov said:
“We have a good perspective with Turkey. We are pleased that Erdogan has the strength to defend and follow his own interests, the interests of his country, and that he is not in the mainstream (like Europe). You know, all Europeans are in the mainstream now, but on their own account. They are spending their own money, Washington is spending money.” He wins. Because of his resentment against Russia, Europe shoots him in the foot.” (AA)
