137 Swedes had their proposals for personal registration plates rejected last year, according to South Sweden. Some of the signs that will therefore not be seen on the roads in the country are “LOOK4AS”, “MAFF1A” and “LUZIFER”. Other rated suggestions are, for example, “NEGRITO”, “FATAZZ”, “BITCHEN”, “ÖLMAGE”, “SNPPEN” and “HACKTUA”.
According to the Swedish Transport Agency’s regulations, a personal vehicle plate must not be designed “so that it can be judged to cause inconvenience or cause offence”. This includes things that allude to, for example, alcohol, drugs, sex, profanity, religion, politics, diseases and crime.
In 2023, the Swedish Transport Agency approved 3,020 signs – which was the lowest figure in five years. However, in 2024, 3,564 license plates were issued for new and extended rights, which is a new record.
A personal sign costs SEK 6,900 and is valid for ten years.
