The little girl is 8 years old when she appears for the first time in a film: The Race of the hare through the fields by Rene Clement. As a teenager, she was a rebellious student determined to become an actress. She left for several years Montreal where she is spotted by Robert Altman for a film that is not made.

Returning to France, she moved to Paris and briefly attended a drama court. She toured in 1983 in First Desires, an erotic film by David Hamilton, then in L’Amour en Douard by Edouard Molinaro. The young actress must however fight hard to appear in the distribution of Manon of the sources of Claude Berry thanks to which she won the César for Best Female Hope in 1987. Thanks to this role, she quickly became a real star.

But her career choices disconcert the public: she favors above all dramatic roles and auteur films. She thus interprets a delinquent in Children of Disorder, a prostitute in I don’t kiss of André Téchiné and a woman persecuted by her jealous husband in Hell by Claude Chabrol. His stark role in The beautiful noisemaker by Jacques Rivette reinforces her image of a liberated and sensual woman. She finds with Claude Sautet the opportunity to demonstrate her talent as an actress in a more subtle register and a palette of feelings all in halftone. A Heart in Winter (1991), then Nelly and Monsieur Arnaud (1995) were public and critical successes.

She let herself be tempted by comedy with The log by Danielle Thompson and renewed the experience with Voyance et manigance in 2001 and To drink in 2003. However, she remains attached to psychological interpretations: she collaborates with Olivier Assayas (Les Destinées sentimentales), Jacques Rivette (The story of Marie and Julien), André Téchiné (The Lost), Anne Fontaine (Nathalie…) and Danis Tanovic (Hell). We find her again at the end of 2006 alongside Catherine Deneuve And Gerard Lanvinas a glamorous cabaret singer for the needs of The family hero. Two years later, it’s in the shoes of a dance teacher in comedy Disco then in the role of a mother in search of her missing child in the Thai tsunami in Vinyan that the actress is talking about. In 2010, she finds her companion at the time Michaël Cohen with whom she shares the poster of the sentimental drama It starts at the endbut also in Bye Bye Blondie by Virginie Despentes in 2012. This same year, she is in the credits of the film anarchic Gaucho TV. We also saw it in The Yellow Eyes of Crocodiles in 2014, but the actress is becoming increasingly rare in the cinema: it is above all in the theater that she now makes appearances.
