French President Emmanuel Macron participates, Saturday, November 19, in the summit of La Francophonie in Djerba in Tunisia, where the French-speaking community meets. He stopped there on his way back from Bangkok, where he had participated in the Apec summit, and after the G20 in Bali. It’s the end of a big international streak.

In two weeks, Emmanuel Macron went to COP27 in Egypt, the G20 in Indonesia, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) forum in Thailandand here it is in Tunisia for the summit of La Francophonie : the last stage of a long diplomatic journey.

And in Djerba too, the French president intends to raise the issue of the war in Ukraine, in the closed-door discussion session devoted to the future of La Francophonie. This with the aim of mobilizing around the values ​​shared by the members of the French-speaking community: the organization of La Francophonie can have a role of influence, it is explained in the entourage of the president.

Emmanuel Macron will not make a speech and will not stay until the end of the summit, since he has planned to return to France in the evening. The President of the Republic will therefore above all take advantage of his visit to Djerba to have bilateral talks with his French-speaking counterparts: with the Tunisian president and host of the summit Kaïs Saïedbut also with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian and certainly African leaders.

At the Élysée, it is explained that a slot is reserved to organize these discussions: before returning to Paris, Emmanuel Macron still wants to try to garner support.
