In less than an hour, Emmanuel Macron will address the French: a solemn televised address, without opponent. The President of the Republic will try to regain the initiative in an atmosphere weighed down by the social and political crisis due to the pension reform. The law raising the retirement age from 62 to 64 was enacted overnight from Friday to Saturday, just hours after its approval by the Constitutional Council.
This did not put an end to the dispute: the trade unions refused to respond to the invitation of the president who wished to receive them this Tuesday (April 18, 2023), and announced a day of massive mobilization for May 1, day of Labor Day.
