Emma Ribom responds in the very best way – after Petter Northug’s harsh outburst against the Swedish skaters: “Go home and cuddle”

The incident during the World Cup caused the Swedes to react.
Something that created anger in Petter Northug.
– That really feels like a real Petter Northug statement, replies Emma Ribom in Expressen.

The highlight of the ski season, the Tour de Ski, is currently underway. Friday is travel and rest day before the finish in Val di Fiemme during the weekend. Unfortunately, none of the Swedes look to be able to challenge the leaders Jessie Diggins and Harald Östberg Amundsen about the overall victory.

The scandal in Norway

The last World Cup weekend before the Tour de Ski took place in Trondheim. On the women’s side, there were greater successes for the Swedish skiers in Norway. Ebb Andersson took a win and a third place. In the sprint came Lynn Svahn and Emma Ribom second and third respectively. But it was something else that became the big talking point.

Namely the audience. When the names of the Swedish skaters were called before the competition, the Norwegians booed in the stands, to which several reacted. Frida Karlsson, Moa Ilar and Linen Weakness were some of those who criticized the audience’s actions, and described it, among other things, as “disrespectful” and “childish”.

Northug’s Wrath

Peter Northug, who now works as an expert on Norwegian TV 2, was not present during the competitions in Trondheim. However, he has been told about what happened, as well as the Swedes’ criticism. And the ski icon doesn’t agree at all.
– Now with the younger generation in the stands, I think you can simply expect a little more booing and such. And so it shall be. You have to put up with that. You just have to take it as motivation. It’s something the very best can handle, says Northug to Expressen.

The 37-year-old also points out that they are not the first Swedes to hear the whistle during a competition.
– I myself have been involved when Marcus Hellner had to endure rough, grotesque things during the five-mile in Holmenkollen. But Marcus didn’t give a damn. He just got motivated. They should see everything as something positive. That it creates commitment. And this sport needs it. If they can’t cope with a little cage calling, it’s just as well that they go home and cuddle with the family instead of going to the World Cup, says Northug.

Ribom’s answer

Emma Ribom is hardly surprised when she hears Petter Northug’s words, and responds in the best way.
– Haha, that really feels like a real Petter Northug statement. But sure, it’s clear we should be able to take it, but now it was more about us being a little shocked. That “shit, we’ve never experienced this at a ski arena”. But if they want to bow to us, they can continue to do so, says Ribom to the evening newspaper.
