Otto Virtanen dominated the victory against Nuno Borges and was happy about his performance in the interview. Virtanen twisted his ankle last week, but it didn’t bother the 22-year-old gambler at all.
– I am really satisfied. I was a bit unsure before whether to play or not and I drew without pressure and enjoyed every point. Every minute on the field was fun, it’s also important in elite sports, Virtanen beamed in the interview.
He has been great in Finland’s Davis Cup matches. The same continued against Borges, ranked 47th in the world. Virtanen could not say for sure the reasons for the national team’s success.
– It could be the fans or a big field. I don’t know if these fans should start being included in the tournaments. It’s always cool to play here, Virtanen smiled.
The condition of the ankle also looks good with an eye on tomorrow.
– It seems to last well. It’s in a package and doesn’t move much, but it lasts, I don’t have any pain.
Virtanen said that the decision about him playing was made last night, when he played for the first time since the injury.
Virtanen values each of his Davis Cup victories highly. Especially the winnings taken from the number one players are hard scalps. Against Borges, he was especially pleased with his consistency.
– When I myself play such an intact match, I have to be satisfied.
The next Finn in the arena is Emil Ruusuvuori. Virtanes has enough credit for his teammate.
