Parts of a children’s hospital in Kiev were completely destroyed when Russia attacked several targets in Ukraine.
Emil Eneblad, national spokesperson for the Young Swedes, was on site in the Ukrainian capital and was nearby when the hospital was hit.
– Seeing the children’s hospital was probably the most disgusting thing I’ve seen in my entire life, says Eneblad to TV4 Nyheterna.
Over 30 people have died and over 100 have been injured after Russia attacked targets in several Ukrainian cities on Monday.
In Kiev, the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital was hit during one of the attacks, where parts of the building were completely destroyed.
Emil Eneblad is the national spokesperson for Ungsvenskarna, which is the Sweden Democrats’ youth association, and has visited Ukraine during the past week together with former SD member Caroline Nordengrip to make contacts with the government party and visit volunteer soldiers.
– Today was the last pass for us to be interviewed by Ukrainian state television, but in the middle of my interview we heard how the rockets flew over us and how they hit the hill, says Emil Eneblad from a car on the way from the Ukrainian capital .
– We had to interrupt and seek shelter, but we didn’t get there before the attack was over. And then it turned out that this children’s hospital had been attacked.
“Like in a movie but 100 times worse”
He tells how they then got a ride to the children’s hospital.
– I recorded a video to try to show people how terrible this is, says Emil Eneblad.
What do you see then?
– The first thing you see is big, black smoke that stinks. Then when you get closer, there are a lot of people screaming, and ambulances driving and police officers standing guard. It looks like a demolition project with hundreds of people screaming and rescue workers trying to dig people out of the rubble. It’s like in the movies, but 100 times worse.
“I wouldn’t wish that on anyone”
He says that the people he talks to are angry, sad and afraid, but that despite this he feels that the will to fight and resist as unchanged among Ukrainians.
Have you been scared yourself?
– I’ve had it explained to me how flight alarms and the like work, so in those contexts I haven’t felt particularly unsafe, but I must say that once I arrived at the children’s hospital… it was probably the most disgusting thing I’ve seen in my entire life . It’s not something I treat any human being and especially not a child, says Emil Eneblad, who leaves Kiev during the evening as previously planned.
