There is an acute shortage of staff in the country’s dialysis departments. Several clinics have to cancel treatments while others have to close during the summer and move their patients to other places. It shows a survey conducted by the Norwegian Kidney Association.
Of the country’s 70 dialysis clinics, 61. answered. Just over half, 54 per cent, stated that there was a shortage of staff. Almost all stated that it is difficult to recruit staff and half stated that it is not possible to receive patients for so-called guest dialysis this summer. This means that people who need dialysis cannot travel in the country.
Just over 4,000 people in Sweden are dependent on regular dialysis, often several times a week.
