Emergency services in that province are sounding the alarm Expert

As citizens who have completed their holidays set off on their return journey, the density in tourism centers shifted to hospitals and emergency services. Izmir Katip Çelebi University Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr. Efe Kanter made important warnings to citizens who will be on holiday.

VARIOUS SYMPTOMS ARE EXPERIENCED IN HOT WEATHER

Saying that the air temperatures are very high during this period and that they see many symptoms related to fluid loss in patients, Specialist Dr. Efe Kanter said, “There is an increase in patient applications. Patients of all ages come to the emergency room. We can see various symptoms related to fluid loss, confusion and kidney failure, especially in the elderly population.”

“WATER CONSUMPTION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR”

Kanter, who stated that they mostly see non-specific symptoms such as headache and weakness in young patients in heat strokes, emphasized that as age progresses and additional diseases increase, especially in the elderly population, confusion, fainting and coma can also be seen. Kanter continued his words, “The increase in sodium due to lack of fluid in the body can cause confusion in the patient’s consciousness. The need for these patients to be admitted to intensive care can increase considerably. Individuals need to drink plenty of water, stay in cool areas, avoid direct exposure to heat and protect themselves when going out in the heat. Water consumption is the most important factor.”

“AS THE BODY GETS DRIED, THE TENDENCY TO INFECTIONS INCREASES”

Kanter, who stated that since they are used very frequently in the summer, pools in common areas should be avoided if one is not sure about their cleanliness, stated that there are patients who have caught an infection from these pools and have gone to the emergency room. Kanter made the following remarks:
“We see a lot of emergency room visits, especially with symptoms such as high fever and urinary tract infection. If there is no fluid consumption, sweating naturally increases, and as the body becomes more dehydrated, the susceptibility to infections increases. Dirty environments should be avoided.”

FOOD WARNING: “COULD CAUSE EPIDEMIC DISEASES”

Emphasizing that if attention is not paid, there will be an increase in cases, Kanter said:

“We see many cases of food poisoning during the hot season, especially in foods eaten outside. Therefore, it is necessary to stay away from restaurants or outside food that we do not trust. It is necessary to stay away from openly sold foods or uncooked meat products and other food products. Because there is a rapid increase in the reproduction of these bacteria due to heat, and this can lead to epidemic diseases, especially in the summer.” (İHA)
