North Macedonia’s government is imposing emergency measures in the capital Skopje and three other cities to protect the population from very high levels of air pollution.

No sporting events will be held on days when pollution levels are high and other outdoor activities will be restricted.

Construction work will only be allowed for six hours per day. The government also recommends that companies let pregnant women and people over 60 stay home from work.
