What is an experience of pure security and love for the audience can be a shocking nightmare for the creators behind the camera. In addition to many productions, this also applies to Friends. At least if you believe the report of the author Patty Lin, whose experience of the series was absolutely devastating.
Friends stars allegedly destroyed jokes with bacon and the writers were arrogant
Patty Lin joined the series in the sixth season in 2000. According to your Time article, the cast, which included Matthew Perry, Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer, had already done so fed up with the sitcom and longed for other roles. Out of frustration, they sabotaged the jokes that the authors had laboriously thought up:
The actors seemed unhappy at being chained to a lame old series. […] If they didn’t like a joke, they sabotaged it so we had to rewrite it. Dozens of good jokes flew out, because they mumbled the words with a mouth full of flab. […] On the whole it was [die Stimmung am Set] aggressive and ghastly.

Friends stars Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry
Comedy master Judd Apatow is said to have previously warned Lin that on Friends “not learn much“. The author was particularly shocked by her colleagues behind the camera, which she apparently treated like an outsider:
The writers on Friends were like a clique, more so than any other series I’ve worked on. She reminded me of the rich kids dressed up from my high school that […] went shopping and drove convertibles.
Lin’s experiences will shock some fans of the series. The sitcom is not unjustly popular. But it was also a workplace where people both great and terrible experiences have made. And some things about Friends just aren’t funny anymore.
