The neighboring Dominican Republic as well as Canada, Mexico and Spain are among the countries that are closing their embassies until further notice.

Public transport has been suspended and many shops have closed again for fear of destruction and looting. Demonstrators have, among other things, blocked several roads.

Last Sunday, Prime Minister Ariel Henry said that the state can no longer afford fuel subsidies and that, among other things, gasoline prices will therefore be raised significantly. The price of diesel and kerosene, for example, will almost double.

Haiti is repeatedly shaken by unrest and violence. The country is one of the poorest in the Caribbean and some parts of the country are completely controlled by criminal groups.
