Embarrassing Yoda moment in Star Wars 5 becomes an internet

Few Star Wars films have more iconic moments as The Empire Strikes Back. The Snowspeeders that take down the AT-ATs at the Battle of Hoth. Han and Leia confessing their love for each other in the dramatic finale. And of course the big reveal when Luke learns that Darth Vader is his father.

A Twitter account is currently letting Star Wars fans review every single shot from the fifth chapter of the star saga in screenshot form. The most likes are for a Yoda picture of Luke’s training on Dagobah. The eyes wide open and the Jedi Master’s mouth, which is even wider open, goes through the roof.

The ultimate Star Wars image of Yoda is clear: fans love the Jedi master’s panicked look

For three years now, Star Wars Shot By Shot has been leading through the Star Wars films in chronological order. The Twitter account is now arrived at episode 5. Yoda’s panicked look, when he falls to the ground during Luke’s training, generated the most attention so far, even surpassing the awkward kiss between Luke and Leia. Of course, when episode 5 was released, no one knew that the two were siblings. Now it’s the Awkward scene par excellence.

5,100 likes for incest, 6,700 likes for panicked Yoda. Star Wars Shot By Shot creator Robby Weidemann expressed his relief on Twitter infamous kiss no longer leads the record numbers:

I don’t mind that at all [der panische Yoda-Moment] is the most liked shot from the film.

Weidemann later shared the Yoda screenshot again with a quote retweet and declared it to be best picture of the Jedi Master. 19,000 likes agree. No wonder, the screenshot is a great choice and shows us a side of Yoda that we don’t associate with the character’s otherwise rather thoughtful or nimble portrayal.

At this point the screenshot turned into a viral meme and spread like wildfire throughout the Star Wars community. One of the most popular quote retweets explains with a wink:

CGI could never recreate the fear in his eyes. This level of fear only exists in our reality.

It’s definitely worth following Weidemann’s carefully curated Star Wars recaps on Twitter. Because the otherwise familiar movements are missing from the screenshots, you can see the films from a different perspective and discovers many new details. This is particularly worthwhile in The Empire Strikes Back because of the outstanding camera work. Hardly any Star Wars film looks more beautiful.
