It’s a new year, but it’s the same Elvira Öberg.
The Swede showed class and won when the World Cup was back – but was not completely satisfied despite the victory.
– It’s not a peak day, she says to SVT.
Elvira Öberg immediately showed that she will also be counted on in 2023. On Thursday, she took home the victory in the sprint in Slovenian Pokljuka after showing brilliant shooting and fine riding in the track – especially in the second half of the race. The win was the sixth of his career and the second of the season for the 23-year-old.
Defeated the leader
Öberg won six seconds ahead of the World Cup leader, the Frenchwoman Julia Simonand even though the Swedish star was happy about the victory, she was still not completely satisfied.
– I have shot quite a lot, but not in sprints. I know I have it in me, it’s so great that I’m starting to find this now that I can shoot zeros and that I SHOULD shoot zeros. That’s really my capacity, she says to SVT.

Above all, the dissatisfaction was about the first lap, which did not quite go as planned.
– It’s easy to go too hard during the first part of the track, I already felt on the first lap that I was speechless and thought that “it could be a hard day today”. Then I still think that I keep the speed up on the second lap, it can usually be my Achilles heel otherwise.

“No peak day”
Öberg also says that she didn’t really have such high hopes for today’s competition.
– Then I’m happy with the sprint lap, it’s not a top day but a stable day in the track. I didn’t really believe this today, I would have been happy if I was there and didn’t have a slow start, but this is how it turned out. Good way to start 2023, says Elvira Öberg in conclusion.
