Elvira Öberg condemns herself completely – honest words after the decisive setback: “It’s not reasonable”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Elvira Öberg’s period of illness has been tough.
Now she gives up the fight for the overall world cup.
– It is not reasonable, she says.

Elvira Öberg was the big exclamation point of the winter early in the season. She had a huge breakthrough last year, and has only continued to dominate this season, with the fine performances and placings back-to-back.

Heavy period

Elvira Öberg was the big favorite to go home as medal queen from this year’s WC, but right there the nightmare began. Elvira Öberg fell ill during the championship, and the road back has been long. Last week she made a comeback, but it wasn’t the comeback she had hoped for.

What at first seemed like just a common cold has now left a serious mark, and it still affects her. She took part in the sprint in Nove Mesto – but was only 63rd(!).

– It has taken longer than I had hoped to recover from the small cold considering that I was not particularly ill, she tells SVT.

Now giving up completely

It is still unclear whether Elvira Öberg will line up in this week’s distance race when the World Cup has come to Sweden and Östersund. And Elvira Öberg does not have high hopes for herself.

– The way the body felt last weekend, it makes no sense to run a distance, it’s a tough competition, she says.

Elvira Öberg is still in second place in the overall World Cup as we now reach the penultimate World Cup weekend. However, the star completely misses his chances.

– I wanted to come here and fight for the overall World Cup, now it probably won’t be, she says.

Öberg continues:

– Yes, but it will be a bit like that considering how it went in Nove Mesto and the miracle form I need to find to bring this back, I don’t see it as reasonable, so it will have to be another year.
