Elvira Öberg and Hanna Öberg had no great relationship before

Today, Hanna and Elvira Öberg are like any sisters.
But during growing up, their relationship was not the top.
– I like her, but not so much, says Hanna Öberg in their podcast “Winter Pass”.

Big sister Hanna Öberg29, broke through during the 2016/2017 season and quickly became all of Sweden’s new favorite athletes. Thanks to her Olympic gold in 2018, she also won the Bragdguldet and the Jerring Prize that year. Little sister Elvira Öberg25, arrived shortly thereafter and would prove to be an even greater talent.

Hanna and Elvira about upbringing

Although the two sisters have no other siblings, and that they grew up in the same house in Piteå, they were never really close to each other during their upbringing. Of course, the age difference in four years did some. But there was also a lot of trouble between them.

They tell in their podcast “Winter Pass” (as they have together with Jonna Sundling and Charlotte Kalla) about their previous relationship.
– We were quite different and had different interests. It didn’t feel like we had a super -tight relationship. We have grown together over time, says Hanna.
– We have not always been as good friends as we are right now. When we both lived at home, we struggled quite a lot. Imagine if we knew then that we would live 300 meters apart and socialize every day, it felt unlikely there for a while, says Elvira.

The rivalry between the sisters Öberg

Today, both sisters live in Östersund and spend time often, both when they practice their sport but also privately. The relationship is good and they are like any sisters. However, there is still a clear rivalry between them when it comes to competition. Should there be a situation where they both settle in a spurt duel, it would be bloody serious.
– It’s not like we don’t compete against each other just because we are siblings. We compete even more against each other. Especially on training. It’s not like I would let Elvira win, Hanna notes.

They would never do like the brothers Anders and Örjan Blomquist Who shared the victory in Vasaloppet in 1988, when they crossed the finish line at the same time.
– We wouldn’t. We would both rather have the right to be able to say that you are better at a riot. We are competition people, sibling love in all glory, says Elvira.

It is probably quite good that there is still a rivalry between Hanna and Elvira when it comes to competition. To be as good as you can become, you must always want to win. Good luck during the World Cup, both Hanna and Elvira! Drive hard!
