Elton John holds his last concert ever – in Sweden

Elton John, 76, ends his touring life with a final gig at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm. Follow the live broadcast here.

The last world tour “Farewell yellow brick road” started already in September 2018, but the planned performances in Stockholm were canceled due to the pandemic, and then because the world star suffered a hip injury.

But tonight it’s time for the rock legend to say goodbye to the touring life for real. On his well-filled CV, Elton John has 31 studio albums, six US number 1s, an Oscar, a nobility and a staggering wardrobe bill.

– People have flown in from all over the world to get here, says the TV4 Nyheternas reporter.

According to American Billboard, Elton John’s records have sold over 300 million copies. Among the fans in Stockholm, there are mixed feelings, because this could be the world star’s last concert.

– I don’t really know if I’ve digested this. I’ve been an Elton John fan all my life. This is a dream, says Liza Hampgård, one of the visitors.

“Feels like Elton is done”

Music journalist Ronny Svensson says that you can never know if it is actually the last gig.

– It feels like Elton is done, he can release magical albums in his home studio, but he might feel like not flying around anymore.

– He is timeless in music, he has sniffed almost all genres of music. I expect now when he comes home that he might make a pure jazz album, says Ronny Svensson.

Ronny Svensson describes Elton John as a person who likes to test the limits, not least when it comes to his famous wardrobe.

– Glam rock is like that, I think it has meant a lot to a new generation, he is a timeless legend.
