It all started with a tweet directed by Liz Wheeler to Musk. Wheeler said Musk should make his own phone if Apple and Google decide to remove Twitter from their app stores. Wheeler’s words were exactly:
“If Apple and Google remove Twitter from their app stores (App Store and Play Store), Elon Musk should produce his own smartphone. Half the country would happily abandon their spying iPhone and Android. Adam builds rockets to get to Mars, a simple little smartphone should be easy for him, right?”

Upon this, Elon Musk responded to Wheeler and announced that he could make an alternative smartphone if he had no other option. Elon Musk’s response to Wheeler was as follows;
“I hope it doesn’t get to that point, but yes, if there’s no other option, I’ll make an alternative smartphone.”

Technology writer Mark Gurman said in a recent tweet that there is a realistic scenario where Twitter is removed from the App Store and Google Play Store due to content moderation issues or if it decides not to give a 15/30 percent commission. “In particular, we now know what Apple’s App Store chief thinks of the new Twitter,” Gurman said.
The App Store chief Gurman mentioned was Phil Schiller, one of Apple’s key figures. Schiller had closed his Twitter account for an unknown reason.
