Elmo Laka has a strong view of Reetta Hurske’s talents: “There will definitely be historic times”

Elmo Laka has a strong view of Reetta Hurskes talents

Reetta Hurskeen the amazing SE vibe has made a great impression on fellow oarsmen. SE man of 110 meter fences Elmo Lakka know what it feels like to run a top time at the international level.

He ran a time of 13.31 at the GP races in Jyväskylä the other summer, which is in the category of the World Championship finals level. Lakka gives a harsh assessment of where Hurske can still reach during this winter.

– If the same song continues, maybe we will see 7.7 times from him as well. I don’t want to create any pressure. One run at a time, and there will surely be some historic times.

Hurske has already broken the Finnish record three times this season. The most recent quote is 7.86, which ran last Sunday in Germany.

With times starting at 7.7, we are in the top 20 of all time world statistics. The tenth place in the all-time European statistics is France’s Cyrena Samba-Mayela with a time of 7.78. That’s what he ran in his World Cup gold run last winter.

– The season is just at the beginning. I believe that Reetta is aiming for her peak condition at the EC halls. Times like that are no joke, Lakka says.

A challenging year for the SE man

In Laka itself, expectations were in the clouds after the summer of 2021. He had broken Arto Bryggaren by four hundredths of the old SE that lasted since the 1984 Olympics.

The goal for the 2022 government was clear.

– I aimed to become Finland’s all-time number one on the indoor tour as well.

The SE of the 60m fences is Bryggaren’s 7.56. It may turn 40 at the beginning of March.

Laka’s record is 7.63 run two years ago. The indoor record and the Finnish record for outdoor tracks are from the same year.

The whole last year was challenging for Laka. He had to leave the reign due to health problems. In his outdoor track season opener, he ran a promising 13.55. However, it remained the best quotation of the summer.

For the Jyväskylä native, both the World Cup and European Championships ended in the heats.

Laka was diagnosed with the intestinal disease IBD a few years ago. Lakka does not want to explain, but admits that last season’s difficulties were caused by his underlying illness.

– I don’t want to go behind it at all. From April to May, I was able to train according to the program. It lasted until autumn. The year before that, I was able to start a good training season already in October, Lakka refers to the training season before the SE summer.

Last summer, Lakka participated in both the European Championship and the World Championship, which was a mistake according to the athlete. This summer, the fact that the World Championships in Budapest is the only competitive event of the season makes it easier to concentrate.

– The World Cup should definitely have been skipped after the broken hall season. Should have aimed only for the European Championships.

EC final in sight

Lakka has started this hall season with promising signs. He ran a time of 7.77 over the weekend in Nantes, France.

Now the Jyväskylä Field Athletes runner has a good and intact training season behind him. Lakka says that he does not have a specific time goal for this government.

– Last season suitably left a dent. There were no complete successes in the value competitions. There are no set-in-stone goals. Let’s go with the feeling.

However, the start of the season gave Laka good signs.

– You can certainly improve your own record. From that start of the season, a tenth is easily removed.

Lakka will compete next time on Thursday in Ostrava, Czech Republic. There are approximately six starts before the European Championships held in March.

Lakka is an EC finalist four years ago.

– I hope the indoor season ends with the EC final. It’s a busy five weeks ahead.

He makes Spain the top name in Europe By Asier Martinez and By Enrique Llopis and France Sasha Zhoyan. The latter is a super talent in his twenties, who is, among other things, the ME man of the youth by heart.

– You definitely have to push under the SE time, if you want medals.
