Elli Punto steered the sprint to the World Youth Championship

The junior world championships in orienteering are contested in the Czech Republic.

Elli Punto won the Sprint Orienteering Junior World Championship in the city of Plzeň in the Czech Republic.

Punto, 18, representing Espoo Suunta, shared the world championship at the same time together with the Czech Republic Michaela Novotnan with. In a very tight fight for seconds, the Swiss bronze medalist Henriette Radzikowski was four seconds behind the duo.

About 400 meters before the finish, Punto was five seconds behind Novotna, but a very fast run to the last cross and to the finish brought him level with Novotna.

On Monday, the sprint relay competition was held at the World Junior Championships, where Finland was seventh.
