In a statement made by the Elysee Palace of France, it was stated that 61-year-old Borne was appointed as Prime Minister and was tasked with forming the new government. The Elysee Palace announced that Castex and his government submitted their resignation to Macron, and that his resignation was accepted.

Borne served as Minister of Transport (2017-2019), Minister of Ecology (2019-2020) and Minister of Labor (2020-2022), respectively, during Macron’s first presidency. Borne became the second female prime minister of the French 5th Republic.

Borne, who was appointed Prime Minister by Macron, became the first woman after Edith Cresson, who served as Prime Minister under François Mitterrand between 1991-1992.
