If a text which has already known several versions of work, its main lines were recalled by the Prime Minister on Tuesday, September 6 during the inauguration of a new police station in the center of Paris. She took the opportunity to announce the recruitment of 8,500 police and gendarmes.

In the brand new building of a police station, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne and the Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, at his side, talk to the police about their daily work. The opportunity for the head of government to take stock of the previous five-year period with in particular the 10,000 new police officers and gendarmes deployed.

The new programming law intends to continue in this direction, according to her:

We are accelerating, since it is an additional 15 billion euros from which the Ministry of the Interior will be able to benefit in the next five years. And I announce to you that we will recruit 8,500 additional police and gendarmes, including 3,000 next year. Here again to better ensure the safety of the French and better fight against delinquency, and as you can see, we are devoting the necessary means.

Creation of 200 new gendarmerie brigades, fight against cybercrime and obviously preparation for the Olympic Games, among others: 15 articles making up the bill presented on Wednesday. Its examination in Parliament will begin in the Senate in October.

But according to the opposition Republicans (right), this version of the text is incomplete. Shortened to 15 articles against 32 initially, its objective is above all to give additional means to the police.
