The Neapolitan Nativity tradition is around 1000 years old. It once started with a stable with Joseph, Mary, the baby Jesus, the ox and the donkey, later it was expanded with a colorful collection of types, such as rich citizens, working-class market vendors, drunks, musicians and a whole procession of animals, such as of course oxen, donkeys and camels, but also an ostrich and an elephant.
