Most of the residents of Havana, the capital of Cuba, were able to enjoy electricity again on Tuesday, when the city’s electricity network was finally restored after the outage that started on Friday, reported the state news portal Cubadebate.
Of Cuba’s approximately ten million inhabitants, a couple of million live in Havana. Outside of Havana, the situation was darker on Tuesday, and several areas were still without electricity.
The repair of the electricity grid was partially slowed down by hurricane Oscar, which hit the island nation early on Monday, Finnish time. Oscar weakened to a tropical storm soon after making landfall, but officials said it still caused at least six deaths.
Cuba is suffering from an economic crisis which, according to experts, is the worst since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of its support to Cuba. There is a shortage of fuel, food, medicines and water in the country.
