Electricity increases of 182 expected for customers with greater protection

(Finance) – An increase in the bill is expected in the first quarter of 2025. The new tariffs for users in May protection, announced by theARERAindicate that the electricity bill for the “typical “vulnerable” customer, served in Greater Protection, will increase by 18.2%.

Since last July 1st – the Authority recalls – the service has been available available for vulnerable customers only that is, they are over 75 years old or are recipients of a social bonus, subjects with disabilities (art. 3, L. 104/92), residents in an emergency housing module or a smaller non-interconnected island, users of life-saving equipment. Approximately 3.4 million customers are currently served in the Greater Protection service.

The increase for the next quarter is attributable to several factors: the continuation of geopolitical tensions in some strategic areas and the rseasonal price increase wholesale of electricity, related to natural gas prices ahead of the winter season.

The analysis of the individual components highlights that the increase in spending it is mainly due to the costs of purchasing electricity and the related equalizations (overall +16%) and ai dispatching costs (+2.4%). The changes in the other items substantially compensate each other: the general charges of system recorded a decrease of 2.7%, while spending on transport and management of the meter marks an increase of 2.5%.

Despite the increases, the annual expense for the typical vulnerable user under the Greater Protection regime it will stand at 523 euros in the period between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025. This value remains lower than 2.1% compared to the 534 euros recorded in the previous period (1 April 2023 – 31 March 2024).

From 1 January 2025, the reference priceor electricity for the typical customer will be 31.28 euro cents per kilowatt hour including taxes. In detail, the Expenditure on energy will be equal to 16.64 euro cents (53.2% of the total bill) for energy supply costs, increasing by 36.2% compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, plus 2.07 euro cents (6.6% of the total bill) for retail marketing, unchanged compared to the fourth quarter of 2024. The Cost for transport and management of the meter will be equal to 6.28 euro cents (20.1% of the total bill) for distribution, metering, transport, transmission equalization and distribution, quality services, up 10.6% compared to the fourth quarter of 2024. Expenditure on system charges a 3.22 euro cents (10.3% of the total bill), down 16.7% compared to the fourth quarter of 2024. The taxes will amount to 3.07 euro cents (9.8% of the total bill) including VAT and
excise duties.
